Solution
Engine Generators
When the grid goes down, the generator has to work every time.
Overview
An engine generator pairs an engine and an electrical generator in a single unit, from portable sets to large stationary installations. Generators provide backup power for facilities, temporary power for construction and mining, and permanent power where the grid is unreliable or unavailable, across industries from telecommunications to water treatment.
Corven supplies generator manufacturers and integrators with the circuit protection, transfer, and control components used inside the panel and in the surrounding power system: air circuit breakers up to 4,000A, molded case breakers from 15A to 1,200A, automatic transfer switches, and panel controls. Our molded case breakers are rated for operation from -40°C to 70°C, so panels perform across wide temperature extremes. Our engineering team works with design and validation groups on requirements and product options.
Equipment for generator systems includes:
Air circuit breakers up to 4,000A, molded case breakers from 15A to 1,200A, and miniature breakers
Enclosed breakers, molded case switches, and motor-circuit protectors
Automatic transfer switches for grid-to-generator and generator-to-generator transfer
Energy-limiting maintenance switches for air circuit breakers
Surge protective devices, residual current breakers, and DIN rail fuse holders
Contactors, overload relays, and manual motor starters for auxiliary motors
Flange handles, push buttons, selector switches, and indicator lights for control panels
Safety contactors and relays for emergency stop circuits
Rotary disconnects for isolation
Low voltage switchboards for generator distribution
Smart energy meters

Industry challenges
Generator manufacturers build products that users depend on at their worst moment. The components inside the panel carry that same responsibility.
Reliability expectations with no allowance for a failed start or trip
Automatic, safe transfer between grid and generator power
Component cost pressure on high-volume orders
Certification requirements, including UL and cUL listings
Limited supplier support during design and validation
Slow turnaround on customized panel configurations
Corven works with OEM engineering teams on requirements early and stays available through validation and production.
